ENCLOS AWARDED THE NEW WISHARD HOSPITAL’S FACADE PACKAGE
Firm’s health care expertise and proven track record wins bid
EAGAN, MN - July 13, 2010 – Enclos Corp in preparing to clad another landmark health care facility in our nation’s heartland. Indianapolis is the home of Wishard Memorial Hospital, serving all of central Indiana. A referendum in 2009 was approved by an overwhelming 85% of voters, paving the way for the construction of a new facility to replace the current outdated building. The $754 million project is scheduled to start this summer, with construction of the new facility to commence in spring of 2011.
Sealed bids for the building enclosure package were opened on April 26th. Adam Peine of Enclos — a native and lifelong resident of Indianapolis — attended the bid opening that established the firm as the low bidder. “We are excited to be involved with such an important project for our local community,” Peine says. “We may be a local Midwest company, but we are bringing world-class technology and know-how to meet the demanding requirements of this building enclosure.” Peine will be running the job for Enclos, overseeing the firm’s local union labor force and managing the local buyout program. “In addition to participating in the construction of a top-quality hospital, we look forward to working with city leaders to make a positive contribution to the community, as we have done in other communities in which we have worked,” Peine says.
There are a dozen different kinds of wall systems and facade elements that make up the enclosure system, including multiple curtain wall systems, rain screen metal panels, structural precast panels and louvers. There are over 20 different kinds of glass with varying performance attributes ranging from solar control to bullet resistance. Everything from unit masonry to exterior doors and bird control systems round out the program. “There are only a handful of companies in the world qualified to do this job,” Peine explains, “and none of them have the experience with health care facilities that we do. We intend to lead the way in meeting or exceeding scheduling milestones and other project requirements.”
The New Wishard intends to be among the nations most environmentally responsible health care facilities, just as Indianapolis strives to become America’s most livable big city. The new hospital will pursue LEED Silver certification, and if successful would not only become the Indiana’s lone LEED Silver healthcare facility, but among only ten newly constructed hospitals in the nation to achieve LEED Silver status or higher. Reusing the old urban site is among the LEED credits the new facility will earn for its many sustainable features. Enclos has been involved with numerous LEED certified buildings, and embraces sustainable practices by hiring local union labor and product and service buyouts from local providers whenever possible.
“We are proud and very excited to have the opportunity to support the central Indiana community in this vital endeavor,” Gregg Sage, Owner and President of Enclos Corp says. “We have participated in the construction of many advanced health care facilities across the country, and understand the challenges presented by this unique building type. We will bring the full resources and experience of our company to assist in the successful completion of this visionary project.”
Enclos has just completing work on the Colket Translational Research Building at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and starting work on two new hospital projects in San Francisco. The New Wishard facility is expected to be completed by 2013. View the hospital's facade package announcement here.

ENCLOS UNVEILS NEW WEBSITE

ENCLOS UNVEILS NEW WEBSITE
Comprehensive New Site Intended as a Primary Resource to AEC Industry
LOS ANGELES, CA – July 8, 2010 - Enclos has unveiled a comprehensive new website at http://www.enclos.com intended to act as a primary resource for the AEC industry with respect to the building skin. The July rollout of the website is the first step in a multi-phased web development program in which increasing layers of content will be added as resource material for the firm's clients: architects, building owners, property developers, general contractors, and others with a stake in the building facade.
“This is not merely an online brochure,” says Mic Patterson, Director of Strategic Development for the firm, “Our website is now a dynamic, content-rich Web location, with new materials being added on an almost daily basis.” The new site features Enclos’ core service and technology offerings, which include curtainwall systems and structural glass facades. The site explores the materials, processes and techniques the firm employs in implementing its advanced façade technology. Website pages discuss façade security, acoustical performance, sustainability, and AESS steel fabrication. A searchable database of over 150 projects will grow to include nearly every project completed by the firm in its 64-year history, including many landmark projects and a progression of the “world’s tallest” buildings. Images and descriptive text are included. “The Library is another feature we are excited about,” says Patterson. “It is intended to grow over time with technical content including relevant image, video and document assets derived from both internal and external sources.” Future plans include a series of AIA continuing education courses related to various aspects of the building façade that architects will be able to complete online.
The new website is part of a major initiative launched by the firm in 2010, including an ambitious marketing and R&D program intended to further the state of the art in advanced facade technology. The program is driven by the escalating aesthetic and performance demands on the building skin. Architects are facing an increasingly complex array of decisions with respect to the building façade: just the decision matrix with respect to glass variations, a ubiquitous material in the building façade, numbers at close to one million according to one industry source. The Enclos initiative includes the recent launch of the Advanced Technology Studio, a façade think-tank in downtown Los Angeles, with the goal of both developing advanced facade technology solutions and assisting architects and builders in their application.

Mayor Commends Minority Participation and Local Hiring Programs
LOS ANGELES, CA - July 8, 2010 - Enclos has received a letter from Los Angles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa praising the firm’s work on the hotels and conference center at L.A. Live, and commending its inclusionary employment and subcontracting programs. The mixed-use complex opened in early 2010, and features a 55-story tower rising from the midst of the low and midrise buildings centered around LA’s Staples Center and the Nokia Theater. The complex, with its abundance of large format LED displays, is often referred to as the Times Square of the West. Enclos was responsible for cladding the all-glass tower that was designed by the Los Angeles office of architect Gensler. The facade systems include over a half-million square feet of custom curtain wall and 34 different types of glass. Highly transparent structural glass facades enclose the tower lobby, and feature point-fixed glass. See the project in detail here.
Mayor Villaraigosa comments, “Your work at the hotel, conference center & cinemas of L.A. LIVE has built outstanding structures that have enhanced the landscape and skyline of our great city, and you used this building opportunity to enhance the lives of local residents who proudly participated in the construction of these projects.” The facade systems were assembled at a nearby Enclos manufacturing facility and delivered to the building site on a just-in-time delivery schedule, where they were lifted from a small staging area and attached to the building structure.
The firm prides itself on its innovative hiring and procurement practices. “We are proud to support the minority hiring goals of the city,” says Dan Green, General Manager for the western region of Enclos’ operations. “We work hard to support the communities where we work, not just in Los Angels but across the country.” The firm’s inclusionary minority, local hiring and subcontracting practices also played a pivotal role in Enclos receiving the contract for the Wishard Hospital project in Indianapolis.
